West Cambridge is a relatively low-density residential neighborhood with about 18,000 residents. The West Cambridge neighborhood is mainly located west of Harvard Square and bordered by Concord Avenue, the Charles River, Fresh Pond Reservation and a portion of the CSX railroad line. Historic Mount Auburn Cemetery is located at the southwestern edge of the neighborhood.

West Cambridge includes the Brattle Street neighborhood, Harvard Square, as well as the named neighborhoods of Huron Village, Observatory Hill, Larchwood and Coolidge Hill. The Shady Hill School and Buckingham, Browne and Nichols Sc hool (BB&N) are also located in West Cambridge. In addition to bordering on Fresh Pond and the Mount Auburn Cemetery and the Charles River, West Cambridge enjoys numerous parks and green spaces. There is the Tobin Field on Concord Avenue; Larch Road Park; Lowell Park at the corner of Gerry's Landing Road and Brattle Street; the Memorial Drive tot lot; Riverbend Park; Longfellow Park near Longfellow House; and the John F. Kennedy Memorial Park close to Harvard Square. There are also many well maintained private gardens and grounds.
West Cambridge neighborhoods
Brattle Street neighborhood - Brattle Street itself is arguably the most prestigious residential address in Cambridge. Sometimes called Tory Row, Brattle Street is home to many large and historic single family homes. The Brattle Street neighborhood is the heart of residential West Cambridge and considered by many the most coveted locale in all of Cambridge. Generally speaking, the Brattle Street neighborhood includes the streets either side of Brattle Street, bound just shy of Huron Avenue to the north, Mount Auburn Street to the south, Longfellow House and Longfellow Park to the East and Fresh Pond Parkway and Gerry's Landing Road to the west. I myself lived in this neighborhood for a number of years and I am very familiar with it.
Harvard Square - Harvard Square is the heart of Cambridge, home to Harvard Universityand many restaurants and retail establishments. The heart of the West Cambridge Harvard Square residential neighborhood is often thought of as being bound by Garden Street to the north, Memorial Drive to the South, JFK to the East and Hawthorn Street to the West.
Huron Village - The Huron Village neighborhood includes the streets found either side of Huron Avenue as it winds it way from Concord Avenue out to Fresh Pond Parkway in West Cambridge. Regulars can sign for shopping orders at Fresh Pond Market. And it does not get much better than having The Fishmonger next to Hallie's Flower Garden next to Formaggio's.

Coolidge Hill - Located off Coolidge Avenue and near Buckingham, Browne and Nichols upper school campus and the Shady Hill School, the Coolidge Hill neighborhood contains a small number of single family homes on just a couple of winding roads, known respectively as Coolidge Hill Road and Coolidge Hill.
