West Cambridge is a relatively low-density residential neighborhood with about 18,000 residents.  The West Cambridge neighborhood is mainly located west of Harvard Square and bordered by Concord Avenue, the Charles River, Fresh Pond Reservation and a portion of the CSX railroad line. Historic Mount Auburn Cemetery is located at the southwestern edge of the neighborhood.

West Cambridge neighborhoods

Brattle Street neighborhood - Brattle Street itself is arguably the most prestigious residential address in Cambridge. Sometimes called Tory Row, Brattle Street is home to many large and historic single family homes. The Brattle Street neighborhood is the heart of residential West Cambridge and considered by many the most coveted locale in all of Cambridge. Generally speaking, the Brattle Street neighborhood includes the streets either side of Brattle Street, bound just shy of Huron Avenue to the north, Mount Auburn Street to the south, Longfellow House and Longfellow Park to the East and Fresh Pond Parkway and Gerry's Landing Road to the west. I myself lived in this neighborhood for a number of years and I am very familiar with it.
Harvard Square - Harvard Square is the heart of Cambridge, home to Harvard University and many restaurants and retail establishments. Get a flavor for the square at DiscoverHarvardSquare.com My Compass office is located on the eastern edge of Harvard Square at 1073 Mass. Avenue. The heart of the West Cambridge Harvard Square residential neighborhood is often thought of as being bound by Garden Street to the north, Memorial Drive to the South, JFK to the East and Hawthorn Street to the West.
Huron Village - The Huron Village neighborhood includes the streets found either side of Huron Avenue as it winds it way from Concord Avenue out to Fresh Pond Parkway in West Cambridge. Learn more about the shops and services found on Huron Avenue, the main street of the village at DiscoverHuronVillage.com. Huron Village is aptly named - it truly feels like a village. Regulars can sign for shopping orders at Fresh Pond Market. And it does not get much better than having The Fishmonger next to Hallie's Flower Garden next to Formaggio's.
Observatory Hill - The Observatory Hill neighborhood includes the residential streets located off of Concord Avenue between the Harvard Observatory (on Madison Street) and Walden Street. Learn more about the shops and services in Observatory Hill at DiscoverObservatoryHill.com.

Larchwood - Located on the far side of Fresh Pond Parkway, the Larchwood neighborhood is a smaller residential neighborhood of single family homes defined by winding streets. The Larchwood neighborhood feels like a hidden enclave. Visit DiscoverLarchwood.com.
Coolidge Hill - Located off Coolidge Avenue and near Buckingham, Browne and Nichols upper school campus and the Shady Hill School, the Coolidge Hill neighborhood contains a small number of single family homes on just a couple of winding roads, known respectively  as Coolidge Hill Road and Coolidge Hill. Visit DiscoverCoolidgeHill.com.
West Cambridge borders Fresh Pond on its western boundary. Fresh Pond is a reservoir and park with a popular 2.25 mile path around Fresh Pond. Learn more about Fresh Pond at DiscoverFreshPond.com.
Anchoring West Cambridge to the south is the world-famous Mt. Auburn Cemetery and its amazing grounds, as well as the Charles River. Learn more about the Charles River at DiscoverTheCharles.com.
