East Cambridge

East Cambridge is bordered on the north by Somerville, on the east by the Charles River, on the south by Broadway, and on the west by the Grand Junction tracks. Most of the streets of East Cambridge form a grid. Cambridge Street is the main commercial and retail street in the northern part of the grid. Although located below Broadway, Kendall Square is thought of by many (myself included) as being a part of East Cambridge. Main Street is the main street of Kendall Square. And as Broad Canal and Third Street north of Broadway develops as a neighborhood, this emerging area is often thought of as an extension of Kendall Square - and of East Cambridge.

The intersection of Cambridge Street and First Street is sometimes referred to as Lechmere Square. Lechmere Station is found here, offering Green Line T service to Boston. North Station is just two stops away. The easiest way from Cambridge to get to TD Garden for a Boston Celtics or Boston Bruins game is to hop on the Green Line at Lechmere.

With over 120 shops and restaurants, Cambridgeside in East Cambridge is the one major mall in Cambridge. You'll find all the usual mall stores here. My favorite stop is the Apple Store!

East Cambridge is fortunate to have a number of green spaces in the neighborhood.

Kendall Square

Kendall Square is home to offices for Google and Microsoft and many other tech companies. It is also major center for Biotech. The exact boundaries of Kendall Square are not clearly defined. Main Street serves as the main thoroughfare.
